Shamp Silk Obtains $10.5 Million Medical Malpractice Verdict

A Cobb County jury ruled in favor of a Georgia family who suffered the loss of their twin babies as a result of physician’s negligence in failing to monitor the mom and the two children accordingly and did not adhere to the applicable standards of care.

In April 2021, the Plaintiffs went to the hospital due to lower abdominal pain while pregnant with twins. She was tended to by the day doctor and later handed off to the night doctor on shift, the defendant on trial. The defendant failed to monitor, assess, and communicate with the plaintiff about her potential infection and shortened cervix, which could mean potential trouble for the babies. Instead the plaintiff was discharged. It only took hours for her condition to go from bad to worse. They were not monitored or treated until the following day, and this critical delay caused the loss of both children at 19.5 weeks.

The plaintiffs were awarded $10.5 million as a result of the successful medical malpractice case. Click here to read more about this verdict.
